Cancer Council Australia

As Australia's peak national non-government cancer control organisation, Cancer Council Australia advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer. We also advocate for the rights of cancer patients for best treatment and supportive care.

Pink Ribbon Day 2011
This year ATPM and a few parks supported Pink Ribbon Day to help raise awareness about breast cancer, as well as raise funds for research, early prevention and patient support programs. ATPM and a few parks supported this day by having a wear pink day, holding a BBQ, selling homemade candles and hosting a morning tea. Across the ATPM group we raised a total of $1817.65. The park who raised the most money this year was Victor Harbor Beachfront Holiday Park who raised $800 by selling home-made fragranced pink soy candles in the reception. A big congratulations to everyone who participated and supported such a good cause, we hope to make this even bigger and better next year!

Australian Youth Against Cancer (AYAC)
Echuca Holiday Park had the pleasure of supporting the Australian Youth Against Cancer (AYAC) organisation in December 2010. Managers Dean and Lawree Scott offered accommodation to youth cancer survivor, Chris Boyd and his support crew who were set to kayak the length of the iconic Murray River. The Murray River Appeal was held to generate awareness of cancer in young adults and to raise money for national cancer research at Lifehouse (The Chris O’Brien Cancer Centre).

Chris, along with his friend Ian Bacon and a busload of support team members, embarked on 15 December 2010 and arrived at the Murray Mouth on 7 February 2011.

Every dollar raised by AYAC through this appeal will be handed over to Lifehouse at RPA (The Chris O'Brien Cancer Centre). Daffodil Day
Daffodil Day is one of Australia’s most well-known fundraising events, and is vital in raising funds to help support Cancer Council research, education programs and support services for patients and their families.
August 2010 – Ettalong Beach Holiday Park raised $164 from contributions and merchandise sales.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
One of Cancer Council Australia’s major annual fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia.

May 2009 – Several ATPM parks as well as the ATPM head office held Morning Tea’s in their parks and a total of $689.05 was raised.

 

Pink Ribbon Day/Girls Night In
Annual events both held in October to encourage women to be breast aware and highlight the importance of breast cancer research.

October 2008
Most ATPM parks as well as the ATPM head office got involved in these events by selling merchandise in the parks, holding raffles, morning teas, BBQs and movie nights etc. Across the ATPM group, a total of $3,600.00 was raised for the Cancer Council. This money was put towards vital breast cancer research and clinical trials, support services for patients, their families and carers, and education campaigns. The park who raised the highest amount of money for this charity was Jubilee Lake Holiday Park, raising a total of $714.40.
October 2009 – Again, many parks got involved, raising a total of $1154.70. The park who raised the largest amount this year was Scotts Head Holiday Park who raised $840.00.

Relay For Life
A team event to raise funds for cancer research, education, information and patient support services.

Participation in Relay for Life was initiated by Jindabyne Holiday Park, who were the first to register a team in this fundraising event in an attempt to raise money and awareness for the Cancer Council. This event was held on 7 February 2009 and approximately $300.00 was raised. Jindabyne Holiday Park’s managers and staff have inspired other ATPM park managers and staff to consider registering for a Relay for Life event in their area. These relays are run all throughout Australia at different times of the year and so will be monitored and encouraged by the Good Corporate Citizen Officers as different parks register and become involved.

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) is the peak national body for prostate cancer in Australia. It is dedicated to: funding research into the cause, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of prostate cancer, raising awareness about prostate cancer and providing support, information and advocacy to men and their families impacted by prostate cancer.

Movember 2011
This year ATPM participated in Movember. For 2011, ATPM raised a total of $198. These vital funds will help raise awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

Movember 2010
ATPM has been participating in Movember since 2008. The 2010 event was a great success, with a large number of ATPM staff and park managers getting involved, raising a total of $2295. ATPM as a company then donated an extra $1147.50 (50c to every dollar), taking the grand total to $3442.50.

Leukaemia Foundation

The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.

The World's Greatest Shave

The Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave is one of Australia’s biggest fundraising events.
Money raised is used by the Leukaemia Foundation to fund free services to support patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. It also funds blood cancer research to find better treatments and cures.

In March 2010, 2 parks chose to particpate in the World's Greatest Shave including Batemans Bay Beach Resort and Lazy Acres Caravan Park. Batemans Bay Beach Resort raised a total of $1000 with many staff colouring their hair and the park manager Danny Whitter as well as Steve Watson, the NSW BIG4 state manager joining in for a shave! One of the residents at Lazy Acres Caravan Park shaved off his beard that he had been growing for the last 29 years to assist in raising $627.40 for this great cause!
